    {DSC06361.jpg} Writer's Profile for: Zach Fricke
    Zach Fricke is, indeed, a model of a lifelong writer. He became interested in writing at an early age and pursued his writer's dream by graduating from Michigan State University with a BA in Journalism, followed by a Masters of Science and Communication from Grand Valley State University. Zach currently resides in North Muskegon, Michigan, where he has been teaching 10th and 11th grade English at North Muskegon High School for the past nine years.
    Zach fell in love with reading and writing, learning that his words mattered and could make an impact on others. A perfect example of this impact was when his high school principal recognized an essay that Zach wrote about respect for a new high school building and publicly praised him for it. Zach moved away from his dream of journalism, realizing that his life would not be his own. He wanted a different kind of writing life and so he chose to journey into teaching.
    Zach enjoys reading Mitch Albom and various sports journalists. He especially enjoys reading inspirational novels and creative nonfiction, containing factual information that adds to his learning of a broad range of topics.

    Kelly is currently an overworked Muskegon Catholic High School teacher, where she has taught for 11 years, with 6 different classes: Honors 9, Literature and Composition 9, Literature and Composition 10, Honors British Literature 11, A.P. Literature, and Yearbook. She earned her undergraduate degree in English and a Social Studies Composite from Hope College. She is currently finishing up her graduate thesis in English Literature from Grand Valley State University. When she isn't teaching (in all her spare time), she resides in Grand Haven with her husband and her 3-year-old son.
    It wasn't until graduate school that Kelly found her voice and began to enjoy reflecting on her learning. She was always an avid reader (only now it is an avid reader of freshmen and sophomore essays). Most of her reading and writing now is academically based, but she does enjoy the classics Dante's Inferno and Paradise Lost, along with anything dealing with historical fiction (with an emphasis on the fiction part). Kelly considers her mentor to be David Alvarez, a professor at GVSU who writes about growing up in a colonized country.
    Sitting in her training on March 22 at the MAISD, Kelly's mind was blown!

    {DSC06357.jpg}

    Sarah earned her BA degree in English Communications from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, and her MA in Reading and Elementary Education at Western Michigan in Kalamazoo. She lives in Spring Lake, Michigan, and teaches ELA at Waypoint Academy in Muskegon.
    Sarah's relationship with writing is a love/hate relationship; she would love to write her own book one day, but just hasn't had the time. Her biggest frustration with writing is the difficulty in engaging students in the writing process because they see it as such a chore.
    Sarah's dad is her writing mentor; he's written several books of his own!! She enjoys reading any kind of author, but especially loves fantasy, science fiction, and fiction, and is partial to trying to find material her students will enjoy.

    ...
    Lynn grew up along the Lake Michigan Shoreline and attended Muskegon Community College and Western Michigan University. She received her Master's Degree from WMU in 1986 in Educational Leadership. She lives in beautiful North Muskegon, Michigan with 2 children and her husband. She has spent the last 24 years teaching for Montague Area Public Schools and is currently teaching 6th grade Language Arts. While she loves to write herself, she finds that teaching writing can sometimes be overwhelming. One of her favorite memories of writing is from her 4th grade teacher who had a "Writing Center" in the back of the classroom and Lynn found herself gravitating towards it all the time. Her favorite books as a child were Nancy Drew and she managed to collect the entire set in one summer. She would also write notes to her teachers on her papers, and more likely than not, she found that they wrote her back. Journals and diaries were also a passion of her teenage and college years.
    Lynn finds that writing about her childhood and teenage years encourages her students in her classroom. She often does not find enough time in her life to write on topics outside of her classroom. Some of her favorite adult authors include Carl Hiaasen, John Grisham, and Janet Evanovich. Her favorite children authors are Ingrid Law, Mildred Taylor, Jerry Spinelli, Brandon Mull, and Rick Riordan.
