Michelle Renna's Writing Profile Born in California, Michelle migrated to Michigan with her mother, brother, and sister while in elementary school. She went to elementary school in Mt. Clemens, and secondary school in Hart. During high school Michelle went to the Mason-Lake-Oceana Math/Science Center, and dual-enrolled at West Shore Community College. After high school, Michelle attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and earned her secondary teaching certificate with a BA in English with a minor in Spanish. She has always been interested in reading and writing and knew from a young age that she wanted to share that passion with students. Michelle currently lives in Muskegon, Michigan and loves teaching 6th grade Language Arts at Fruitport Middle School. She has been a teacher in Fruitport for nine years.
As a young writer, Michelle loved journaling and poetry writing. As she got older, she found it harder and harder to make time for writing in her life. After being in a writing group with other teachers under the tutelage of Linda Denstaedt, Michelle now has goals of writing her own songs and short stories. She dreams of one day writing her own fantasy novel and a musical about teaching. Now, she keeps a small journal with her for those times when inspiration strikes...and there is inspiration everywhere!
Michelle almost always has a book (or kindle) in her hands or nearby. She remembers curling up with many series books as a young reader such as Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, The Boxcar Children and The Babysitter's Club. In middle school, she quickly found the adult section at the public library and dove into series by V.C. Andrews. She soon found her longtime "Constant Author" Stephen King, which led her down her current pathway of her love of fantasy and science fiction. When reading young adult novels, Scott Westerfield, Suzanne Collins & Rick Riordan are at the top of her list.
